TL;DRResearchers from the Faculty of Sciences in Lisbon are developing concepts to facilitate soft landings on the Martian surface. This work aims to support preparations for upcoming crewed missions to the planet.

TL;DRNASA achieved the first successful Mars landing on July 20, 1976, with the Viking 1 mission. Several prior attempts by the Soviet Union to land on the planet had failed.
